What does non-network coverage mean?

In health insurance you will have some benefits, doctors, hospitals that are considered in network and others that are out of network or non-network.  Make sure to check your plan to see how they vary but generally non-network coverage will have a higher deductible, coinsurance, copay and max out of pocket compared to in network.  At the same time some plans may have no coverage at all for anything considered out of network.

IS there an easy way to check coverage other than calling each time?

Hey Erin, most carriers will have a provider search from their website. It will give you the ability to search by name, type of facility, location, etc. Just be sure to pay attention to the network you are under as some carrier sites will show multiple networks if the carrier uses more than one.

With that being said if there is ever any doubt you can always call the carrier as well.

In any case hope this helps, just let me know with any other questions.

Thank you very much.
